Demolition of a 9 story office building with penthouse, as well as a 5 story parking garage, with three levels of the parking garage being below grade. We used one high-reach demolition machine for this job – Hitachi 850. Three excavators were used to demolish the parking garage and attached walkway: a Komatsu 650, Komatsu 300, and a Volvo 380E. All metals were removed from the rubble using excavator-mounted magnets and then recycled. The empty space was backfilled with rubble from the existing building, as well as material sourced from Celtics sites across Washington, D.C. It was then topped off with dirt as requested for the incoming use of the land. This job was contracted with the developer.
